There's a particular way to tie the cords around the neck as well as the hands and feet so that its victims wind up strangling themselves. It's an ingenious little design, with the victim forced to stay taut if they don't wish to be killed, using all of their strength to stay tensed and alive.

Of course, that's not simply torture. It's done as a method of execution, a way to force the condemned into a futile attempt at not killing themselves.
